Chapter 148: Tai Sui

Ning Xiaochuan channeled a stream of Profound Qi into the Mystic Beast Manual, and with a thought, a dazzling white light shot out from it.

"Roar!"

A six-meter-tall Double-headed Stone Beast appeared by the stream, its massive body towering like a moving mountain. Its legs resembled stone pillars, its heads were like millstones, its tail was akin to a stone ridge, and its mouth seemed lined with jagged stone swords.

From its left maw, it exhaled a gust of Cold Qi, instantly freezing the entire stream into solid ice, coating the surrounding forest in frost.

From its right maw, it spewed flames, igniting the ancient trees in the woods, turning them into blazing lanterns in an instant.

"Little Shuang, return!"

At Ning Xiaochuan's command, the Double-headed Stone Beast transformed back into a wisp of white light and flew back into the Mystic Beast Manual.

"Chirp chirp!"

The Small Red Dragon fluttered down onto Ning Xiaochuan's shoulder, its round eyes gleaming as it stretched out a tiny claw to paw at the Mystic Beast Manual in his hand, clearly fascinated.

"What? Do you want to be sealed inside the Mystic Beast Manual too?" Ning Xiaochuan asked.

Hearing this, the Small Red Dragon shook its head vigorously, letting out a series of chirps while staring intently at the manual, its claws outstretched in desperate longing.

"You want this Mystic Beast Manual?" Ning Xiaochuan asked.

The Small Red Dragon's eyes lit up, and it nodded eagerly, blinking at him repeatedly.

"Fine, you can borrow it for a little while." Ning Xiaochuan handed the Mystic Beast Manual to the Small Red Dragon.

The moment it took hold of the manual, the Small Red Dragon shot into the air, clutching it excitedly, flipping and twirling in delight.

"Whoosh!"

It raised the Mystic Beast Manual above its head and summoned the Double-headed Stone Beast once more. Then, lazily perching atop the beast's head, it commanded it to march deeper into the Ghost Dream Wilderness.

"So that's how it is. My fate is now tightly intertwined with the Small Red Dragon's, which is why it can use the Mystic Beast Manual to summon the mystic beasts inside."

Ning Xiaochuan's body transformed into a radiant rainbow as he chased after the Double-headed Stone Beast and the Small Red Dragon. The Ghost Dream Wilderness was treacherous, and he couldn't afford to let them cause chaos.

The Double-headed Stone Beast moved like a mobile hill, plowing through the forest, snapping trees in its path and leaving behind footprints the size of washbasins.

Ning Xiaochuan landed on the beast's back and said, "Little Red, give me back the Mystic Beast Manual."

The Small Red Dragon shot him a glance, then hugged the manual tightly to its chest, shaking its head so hard it looked like a rattle drum.

Ning Xiaochuan's vision darkened.

It actually wanted to keep the Mystic Beast Manual for itself!

Quick as lightning, before Ning Xiaochuan could react, the Small Red Dragon stuffed the manual into its mouth, its cheeks bulging grotesquely as it tried to force the object down its throat. The manual got stuck halfway, stretching its neck into a fan-like shape.

"Cough! Cough!"

The Small Red Dragon writhed on the Double-headed Stone Beast's back, unable to spit the manual out or swallow it, utterly miserable.

Ning Xiaochuan sighed, grabbed it, and squeezed its neck sharply, forcing the Mystic Beast Manual out of its mouth.

Holding the manual, Ning Xiaochuan lightly smacked the Small Red Dragon's face twice. "If you misbehave like this again, I’ll seal you inside the Mystic Beast Manual!"

The Small Red Dragon quickly nodded repeatedly, but its eyes remained fixed on the Mystic Beast Manual.

Ning Xiaochuan intended to subdue more and even more powerful mystic beasts, deliberately traversing treacherous mountains and deep valleys in search of suitable targets.

"Boom!"

A Black Python crawled out from a stone cave in the cliff, its body over 20 meters long and as thick as a barrel, with eyes like two large lanterns.

Ning Xiaochuan sprang up from the back of the Double-headed Stone Beast, unfurling a pair of wings on his back, and struck the Black Python’s head with a palm strike, forcing it to let out a pained howl.

"Swish!"

The Black Python’s tail lashed through the air toward Ning Xiaochuan, sweeping through a patch of trees and reducing them to broken logs.

"Rainbow Three-Movement Body!"

Ning Xiaochuan activated Rainbow Teleportation, his body shifting positions three times in succession before landing unpredictably atop the Black Python’s head with ghostly speed, pressing down with another palm strike.

His hand was enveloped in lightning, forming a massive Lightning Claw that pinned the Black Python’s head firmly to the ground.

"Whoosh!"

The power of the Demonic Sword erupted from within Ning Xiaochuan.

The Blood Qi within the Black Python surged wildly into Ning Xiaochuan’s palm, absorbed by the Demonic Sword. Soon, the python’s massive body withered away, turning into a black snakeskin sack.

Though the Black Python’s combat strength was formidable, it wasn’t suitable for subduing as a mystic beast servant, so Ning Xiaochuan simply killed it, absorbing its Blood Qi to enhance his cultivation.

Ning Xiaochuan sat cross-legged at the base of the cliff, fully absorbing the Black Python’s Blood Qi. The Martial Arts Profound Qi within him increased significantly, equivalent to ten days of independent cultivation.

"Rainbow Teleportation!"

Ning Xiaochuan activated the divine technique again, his body transforming into a streak of rainbow light as he landed at a height of over 20 meters on the cliff—yet he didn’t immediately fall.

His body then transformed into a second rainbow arc, leaping another 20 meters higher.

After shifting positions four times in succession, Ning Xiaochuan scaled the 90-meter-high cliff and landed at its peak. "Reaching the Rainbow Four-Movement Body realm brings me one step closer to the Great Perfection of Rainbow Teleportation."

Only a warrior in the Transcendent Realm could leap 90 meters high using martial power, but Ning Xiaochuan, utilizing Rainbow Teleportation, still ascended the cliff. Looking down, the Double-headed Stone Beast appeared no larger than a fist-sized pebble.

Spreading his wings, Ning Xiaochuan descended back to the base of the cliff.

Earlier, while surveying the terrain from the cliff, he had detected several perilous regions, faintly emanating the aura of mystic beast kings from those directions, making him sense danger.

Ning Xiaochuan stored the Double-headed Stone Beast back into the Mystic Beast Manual and proceeded cautiously.

The Small Red Dragon, however, was utterly unrestrained, walking ahead of Ning Xiaochuan—sometimes flitting to treetops, other times landing in the grass.

The dragon and the human ventured deep into the canyon, where the ground was now barren, covered only in hard stones.

"Roar!"

The Small Red Dragon seemed to have discovered something, darting into a pile of rocks and digging frantically with its claws, excavating a large pit. Suddenly, it let out a startled shriek, scrambling out of the pile in a panic and hiding behind Ning Xiaochuan, one tiny claw repeatedly pointing toward the rocks.

Danger?

Ning Xiaochuan condensed a Profound Qi Sword and cautiously approached the pile of rocks. Behind the rubble, in a large pit, he spotted a small creature covered in scales, only half a meter tall. It resembled a pangolin but had the head of a qilin.

The Small Red Dragon had actually dug out a mystic beast from the rocks?

"So it's just a mystic beast cub," Ning Xiaochuan sighed in relief.

BOOM!

No sooner had he spoken than the half-meter-tall Qilin Pangolin suddenly expanded to over ten meters in height. A single ear alone was as large as Ning Xiaochuan’s entire body, and its eyes were as big as water vats.

Standing before it, Ning Xiaochuan looked as tiny as an ant.

Its massive frame dwarfed even the Double-headed Stone Beast by several times. With a deafening roar that sent sand and stones flying through the canyon, it stomped down toward Ning Xiaochuan.

CRASH!

Ning Xiaochuan transformed into a streak of multicolored light, narrowly evading the attack. The spot where he had stood was now a deep crater, crushed by the Qilin Pangolin’s foot.

Even a man of flesh and blood—let alone an iron statue—would have been flattened into a pancake under that force.

"Little Shuang!"

With a flick of the Mystic Beast Manual, a flash of white light sent the Double-headed Stone Beast charging forward to engage the Qilin Pangolin in battle. The canyon trembled as rocks shattered and flew in all directions, the air filled with the sounds of violent impacts.

Despite the Qilin Pangolin’s overwhelming size advantage, it struggled to gain the upper hand against the Double-headed Stone Beast.

The Double-headed Stone Beast could unleash both freezing and scorching powers, and its near-indestructible body made it one of the strongest among Fourth-grade Mystic Beasts.

Meanwhile, the Qilin Pangolin was merely a cub, relying solely on its Physical Strength, its innate abilities not yet fully awakened.

"What kind of mystic beast is this? Even as a cub, it can fight the Double-headed Stone Beast—it must be extraordinary."

"A qilin’s head, a pangolin’s body..."

As Ning Xiaochuan pondered, the Qilin Pangolin suddenly burrowed into the ground and vanished.

BAM!

It reappeared behind the Double-headed Stone Beast, lashing out with its tail and sending the stone beast crashing into the cliff. The impact shattered parts of its rocky body.

ROAR!

Enraged, the Double-headed Stone Beast bellowed and spewed scorching flames from its mouth.

But the Qilin Pangolin submerged into the earth once more, only to emerge again behind its opponent, striking with enough force to nearly dismantle the stone beast entirely.

Yet, thanks to its indestructible nature, the scattered rocks quickly reassembled, swelling its body even larger as it resumed the battle.

Watching the Qilin Pangolin move effortlessly through earth and stone, Ning Xiaochuan recalled an ancient name— "Could this be a descendant of the Earth Desolate Beast Emperor Clan… a Tai Sui?"

The Tai Sui was an ancient mystic beast, ruler of the Underground World, dwelling deep beneath the earth.

The saying "Digging on Tai Sui's head" referred to the belief that the Tai Sui was the master of the land. Anyone who accidentally disturbed one while digging would face terrible misfortune.

Most assumed the Underground World was a lifeless void, but in truth, it was anything but.

The Underground World is also a bizarre and fantastical realm, inhabited by many ancient and powerful creatures. The Tai Sui has always lived in that world, rarely surfacing to the ground.

In truth, Ning Xiaochuan wouldn’t have encountered the Tai Sui Cub on the surface today if not for the Small Red Dragon’s meddling. The mischievous creature had dug the sleeping Tai Sui Cub straight out of the earth.

The poor thing had been resting peacefully before being rudely unearthed, and naturally, it wasn’t pleased.

The Tai Sui Cub had initially tried to burrow back underground to escape, but the Small Red Dragon grabbed its tail and yanked it out of the soil again.

This finally provoked the Tai Sui Cub into attacking Ning Xiaochuan in fury—while the real culprit, the Small Red Dragon, hid far away behind a large rock.
