Chapter 56: Trigger Words, Psychological Trauma

Chapter 56: Trigger Words, Psychological Trauma

"Alright, that concludes today's treatment."

"Your family will need to remain hospitalized for further observation."

After understanding the Cunning Little Girl's condition, Ji Yan swiftly ended his shift without delay.

After all, he'd spent enough time in the ward.

Though his precious worm had died, thanks to Ji Yan's tactful handling afterward, Supernatural Girl Yue Yue still held more goodwill than resentment toward him.

She tore off the drawing of the family of four and handed it to Ji Yan with a smile: "Big brother, this is a thank-you gift for you."

"Take good care of it. It's very precious to Yue Yue."

Ding! Congratulations, Player, for your outstanding performance in the mission. Reward obtained from A22 Ward's patient—[Drawing of the Supernatural Family].

Item Description: On a silent, lonely night, if you feel alone and without company, take out this drawing and look back. You won’t be alone anymore—everything around you will grow lively.

"Another vague and creepy reward description," Ji Yan thought as he accepted the drawing.

But he knew a reward from a [Critical] patient wouldn’t be worthless, so he smiled and said, "Don’t worry, big brother will definitely treasure it."

Exiting the ward, Ji Yan felt a dull pain in his right eye.

When he touched it, his hand came away covered in blood—his vision was blurred!

Though Yue Yue’s imagined family hadn’t actually plucked out his eyeball, his right eye was practically useless now...

Losing an eye in the Supernatural Game would severely impact his future missions!

"You actually walked out intact?"

The Ghostly Nurse in charge of cleaning stared at Ji Yan with her lifeless fish-like eyes, surprised that none of his body parts were missing.

"Not exactly intact. My right eye’s gone."

"Does the hospital have any medicine to treat eyes?" Ji Yan asked, hoping to extract some treatment-related information from her.

"I’m only responsible for cleaning."

"Since your right eye is useless, let me remove and dispose of it for you."

Before Ji Yan could react, the Ghostly Nurse’s right hand shot toward him.

Ji Yan leaped back—but his right eye was already completely blind!

When he looked up again, his eyeball was already in the Ghostly Nurse’s hand.

Ji Yan was stunned. He hadn’t even felt any pain.

Did she just pluck it out like it was nothing?

"Alright, time to clock out." The Ghostly Nurse, as indifferent as an overworked employee, pushed a stretcher piled with players' body parts and prepared to leave.

Ji Yan couldn’t help but curse under his breath.

The Blood-Stained Paper Figure hopped onto his shoulder.

Though only palm-sized, it was expressive like a tiny human.

It gestured to Ji Yan: "Want me to beat her up with your right hand?"

Honestly, though the Blood-Stained Paper Figure had a temper, it was fiercely loyal!

But Ji Yan suddenly thought of something and quickly chased after the Ghostly Nurse, blocking her path.

"If you can remove an eye painlessly, can you also install one painlessly?"

With that, he retrieved the eyeball from his Toolbar—the one he’d dug out from the Wraith Specter on the 7th Floor of the Apartment Instance.

If he remembered correctly, this eyeball was highly valuable—usable as a Supernatural Artifact, for players, or even as a trade item.

The Ghostly Nurse tilted her head, examining the Supernatural Eyeball.

"Since you’re letting me leave work early, fine. I’ll help you."

She picked up the eyeball and extended it toward the bleeding right eye socket. Ji Yan only felt an itch in his right eye, and miraculously, his vision was restored!

From a third-person perspective, Ji Yan's left eye appeared pitch-black, while his right eye took on an eerie dark purple hue. The right eye seemed like an independent lifeform, rotating irregularly as if adjusting to its new body.

Ding! Congratulations, Player, for using the Supernatural Artifact [Wraith Specter's Eyeball]. Your right eye has been replaced with a Supernatural Eyeball, enhancing your visual perception.

Supernatural Eyeball Ability: Can block hallucinogenic effects such as Supernatural Blindness and Supernatural Veil. Additionally, it can accurately pinpoint ambushing targets when encountering danger.

Ji Yan's face twisted in shock.

He had only wanted to try it out—he never expected it to actually work!

Even he found it absurd, but remembering this was the Supernatural Game, everything suddenly made sense.

He just hadn’t anticipated that a Supernatural Eyeball he’d casually obtained in the Crimson Apartment would have such a chemical reaction in the next instance!

The Ghostly Nurse pushed the gurney away.

After briefly adapting to the Supernatural Eyeball, Ji Yan wasted no time filling out the medical report for A22 Ward.

"Patient: Qiu Yue."

"Gender: Female."

"Diagnosis: Mental Delusions."

"Condition: Imagines three family members, each playing distinct roles. High risk. Emotional stability depends on the attitudes of these imagined family members. Currently stable."

"Consultation Suggestion: Do not discharge. Keep under observation."

"With this filled out, the report should pass the evaluation, right?"

Thinking this, Ji Yan carried the report back to the first-floor lobby.

Two players had already completed their tasks ahead of him and were waiting there—the Masked Man, Liao Qing, and the aloof woman, Liu Zhaodi.

They stared at Ji Yan in disbelief. "You finished your task?"

That patient had been labeled [Severe]. According to the game’s introduction, patients of that category were highly unstable and extremely dangerous.

"Consider it done."

"Desperate times call for desperate measures. Whether it works or not is up to fate."

Ji Yan shrugged.

Their expressions shifted—naturally, they had hoped Ji Yan would fail. Fewer competitors meant a better chance at securing one of the two promotion spots.

Soon, the other two, Yuan Yao and Ruan Tao, returned.

Ruan Tao looked furious, half his body drenched in a foul yellow liquid. He cursed under his breath, "Damn it, my patient was a bedridden old man—paralyzed from the waist down. I had to play nursemaid, cleaning up his piss and shit for half a day before he finally gave me his condition!"

"If this were the last instance, I would’ve blown his head off with a single shot!"

Yuan Yao pinched her nose, her face full of disgust.

"Mine wasn’t so bad—just an elderly woman with mild dementia."

"She said I looked like her granddaughter and quickly gave me the details."

All five players had completed their tasks.

Judging by their expressions, they seemed satisfied with their reports.

About ten minutes later, as the lobby’s pendulum clock chimed, the Supernatural Doctor appeared on time.

No one knew where he had been, but his body was drenched in glaringly fresh blood, soaking half his attire.

"Just finished a simple surgery."

"You’re all punctual. Now, submit your patient reports."

The Supernatural Doctor took the five interns’ reports, skimmed through them hastily, and began scoring each one before handing them back to the players.

Ji Yan took a deep breath and glanced at his Performance Score.

85 points!

Qualified.

The game's mission announcement echoed in his mind.

"Ding! Congratulations, Player, on completing the B-grade Mission. Your consultation on the patient's condition in A22 Ward was entirely accurate, but the Supernatural Doctor was dissatisfied with your advice, deducting 15 points."

Dissatisfied?

Ji Yan was puzzled. Was recommending observation wrong? Should he have forced the patient to leave instead?

But that would inevitably trigger the Cunning Little Girl's Blackening...

Ji Yan shook his head, unable to comprehend the deduction.

"Congratulations on completing today's mission. You have successfully obtained the rewards: a [Rare] Surgical Kit, nighttime accommodation in Bed 4, and a generous dinner."

Ji Yan briefly checked the rewards before storing them in the Toolbar.

Then, he turned his gaze to the other four Players. Their expressions alone gave away their approximate Performance Scores.

It was obvious—Ruan Tao's face was the most displeased...
