2361 - The Board Becomes Clear
“…Hahaha!”
“……” Qarun continued to watch Sevar’s loud laughter with quiet, suppressed anger. “I took on a mission, I carried out the mission, and that was the end of it.” Then he gestured toward Sevar with his head. “On the other side, you’re not in a position to speak about me like that, you fugitive.”
“Heh…” Sevar’s laughter slowed. “I’m not in a contest to see who’s more obedient to the All-Seeing God. I chose my path for my own personal reasons. I didn’t want to be a puppet in the hands of someone who moves me as he pleases without even knowing why I’m being moved.” Then he stared into Qarun’s eyes. “That war that destroyed my planet after I reached the Middle Belt—it was part of his plan to ignite a cosmic war. He wanted to use my rage against his enemies, and he almost succeeded… but far from it.”
“Far from it?” Qarun laughed. “You seem strong and clever, as if one of the Patrons hasn’t contacted you and told you all this.”
"...." Sevar raised his head slightly. "And what if it did happen?" He continued calmly, though his voice was far from steady. "When I spoke to the All-seeing God and told him what happened to my planet, do you know how he replied? He said, 'I am not a babysitter—you must bear the responsibility and move forward.'" Then he laughed. "That despicable liar—he can shape reality and foresee what will happen for hundreds of thousands of years, yet he couldn't see what would befall my planet and my family?!"
"Hmm, because he failed to tell you what was to come," Qarun smiled. "So you decided to betray the Universe?"
"A foolish statement, big brother, but I won't call you a fool, for you have no shepherd, and our companion told you nothing. So let me enlighten you." Sevar spoke clearly. "What is happening is that there are many other universes—hundreds of them. And from those universes, in the endless Sea of Years, exceptional individuals emerged who mastered six Master Laws and underwent physical transformations, elevating them above the rest of us. They gave themselves the title of the Transcendents."
Then he continued calmly, "Those Transcendents want something from each other, something called The Seals. But because their numbers are few, and they cannot use armies to kill each other, they have to fight with their own hands, and since none of them wants to enter wars that threaten their precious lives... they devised a way to exchange those Seals through wars, bets, and dirty games using multiple universes, and at the end of each Cycle, the end of every 100 million years, the winner and loser are determined and the Seals are redistributed."
Then he pointed to himself and then toward Qarun, "You and I were serving someone trying to win a few Seals for himself, no, even worse..." Sevar laughed loudly, "The All-Knowing God is the last Transcendent to join the group; he is the most hated one, and everyone covets his fresh Seals, so whatever pathetic attempts he is making now, they are mostly to try to preserve as many of his Seals as possible, without angering his enemies too much."
"......" Qarun had heard more than half of that information before, but still...
"Hehe, are you feeling bad?" Sevar smiled, "Well, here's a piece of information that might restore your enthusiasm: The All-Knowing God was born in B-14 three Cycles ago. I think you could say he is one of us, and we must serve him with our blood and souls!!"
"...." Qarun narrowed his eyes. "Did your new Patron tell you all this?"
"Well, the Patrons are different from the All-seeing God. They have to put in effort, offer benefits, information, and such to get you to agree to join them without much fuss or pulling too many threads." Sevar looked into the distance. "Because this is the universe the All-seeing God bet on. He is allowed to intervene significantly and choose his candidates as he pleases. If he had prestige and power in the Pantheon, no one would have tried to become a Patron in his own universe. But that's the reality—we're plagued by nearly half the Pantheon planting Traitors everywhere, if you want to use that expression."
Then he opened his arms. "Look at me. After the Weaver shepherded me, the All-Knowing God sent more than half of his candidates to kill me. But he didn't attack me himself, and he couldn't do it—otherwise, the Weaver would retaliate by killing his candidate too. In the customs of the Pantheon, it's forbidden for the Weaver to interfere directly. But the All-Knowing God is too insignificant to do anything; the most he can do is take the matter to the Court."
Then he smiled bitterly, "I wish the one in charge of Universe B-14 were someone else—a transcendent being of high status, even if their origin was from another universe. In the end, they would support us, strengthen us, and protect us because they want victory. But tsk, tsk~ It's our fate, and the fate of B-14, whose ranking drops more and more each cycle until it's nearly turned into a farm by the All-seeing God."
"Aren't you one of the reasons it's declining and turning into a farm?!" Qarun was astonished. "Who has harmed the universe and delayed its progress more than you? If I hadn't stood against you, you would have turned everything into rubble!"
"Hey, big brother, let's not play innocent here." Sevar furrowed his brows tightly. "Do you need me to remind you of the way you obtained Creation and Identity? Or do you think I don't know?"
"...I did what I had to do and obtained them for him—for a solid foundation for his faction in the universe!" Qarun waved his hand forcefully.
"Heh~" Sevar laughed without saying a word, his expression utterly sarcastic.
