2426 - Fighting with What's Possible
Sector 500—Dream Galaxy
*Knock* *Knock*
"Hmm?" Morval raised his head toward the door to examine who was behind it, slightly puzzled, and set down what he was holding on the cloud-like table before him, then leaned back against his chair. "Come in."
*Whoosh*
The next moment, the door opened and a girl walked in... almost a girl.
She was beautiful, with half her hair pale between yellow and white, covering one of her eyes. She wore a short skirt and a tight shirt... but as she advanced, she flickered, appearing more like a moving image than a reality.
"What happened, Timari? Did Lord Robin contact you with something new?" Morval asked to start the conversation, though he knew full well that wasn't the case.
In this era, the mere entry of Lord Robin into the Soul Society would demand his utmost attention... and Lord Robin hadn't entered in decades!
"I want to understand one thing." Timari moved quickly until she sat tensely before Morval. "Who exactly are we with?!"
"..." Morval's brows furrowed with a hint of anger. "Your question is provocative and belittling. Since when has the Soul Society been with anyone? We are who we are."
"That's the problem!!" Timari raised her voice. "The new universe is forming rapidly—why don't we keep pace with it?"
Then she pointed away, "The war that will erupt in Middle Sector 89 soon will change everything—that's where Lord Robin will fight against three cosmic pillars indirectly." Then she stared into Morval's eyes, "But at least the hostility is present and raised, and the sides are defined. Those three don't want Lord Robin to advance further, and most importantly, Lord Robin knows this."
"Do you want us to join them?" Morval wondered with a smile, already knowing her answer.
"Aren't you doing that right now?!" Timari raised her voice slightly, "I admired your approach before—that you stayed away watching and sent envoys to attend Lord Robin's grand parties when needed. That was the logical choice and sound thinking. He's undoubtedly our most important client, and there's no need for us to antagonize him. Even when he doesn't hand us new projects, our mere profits from transferring his money to his followers through the Soul Society earn us enormous sums!"
"What's your problem then, Timari?" Morval furrowed his brows slightly, "We're maintaining a policy of neutrality with everyone."
"What about the deals for imaging, sensing, surveillance, and stealth devices that we're now selling directly?!" Timari finally got to the point.
"What about them?" Morval laughed, "Selling surveillance devices has become a grudge against someone now?" Then he waved his hand, "I refuse to accept any guardianship imposed on what we do."
"First Brother, what exactly is wrong with you?!" Timari raised her voice slightly, "If the surveillance and harassment that Lord Robin is subjected to in Donara, in his current residence, reaches a limit he cannot accept, do you think he will ignore our sales of these items at this time? If he turns against us, will you tell him that you refuse guardianship and he'll reply: 'Well, you're right'?!"
Then she raised her voice even more, "One of the leaked recordings captured Lord Robin in his glass home writing something!!"
"Didn't we prevent that recording from spreading?" Morval waved his hand, "I know the fine line between enmity and business, Timari, don't bother me with these matters."
Morval's expression at this moment was genuinely annoyed...
Timari's words struck him where he thought daily, but she saw the matter from only one perspective.
No one other than the current director of the Soul Society knew about the existence of the Giver, the matter of the Transcendents, the truth of the All-seeing God, and other such difficult matters...
He knew why the other powers had begun to besiege Robin Burton... because of the emergence of two Unbound.
This is entirely expected, and they have every right on the grand stage—for as long as the All-seeing God has begun creating Unbound, He must bear the consequences of an exposed game.
He himself should join them and restrain the Candidate, restrain Robin Burton and the two Unbound working on his behalf. For if left to his own devices, he will control the universe once the Unbound mature—and then what would he do?
His Lady, the Giver, does not want a direct confrontation. She wants chaos, delay, and play from afar, so she does not want him to intervene. But if he stays silent and waits until Robin Burton takes control of the universe, what then? At that point, the Giver would surely abandon him. Would he surrender everything to Robin Burton and become his follower?!
Or would the Giver personally destroy everything she owns so it does not fall into the hands of the All-seeing God?
In all cases... a catastrophe awaits him.
Servitude or death awaits him.
So it is only logical for him to do something to help bring down Robin Burton, or at least slow his progress... while at the same time not angering the Giver or earning himself a direct enmity with Robin Burton.
...And what better way to accomplish that than contributing to the rumor war by selling a few devices?
Who can blame them? Their trade has always depended on buying and selling since time immemorial.
"When Lord Robin reaches the edge, he will find no justification to stop himself from attacking us!" Timari screamed, "Don't you see? The preparations for the war in Middle Sector 89 are still ongoing despite all the parties involved in it, what's the problem if we're considered an additional adversary? Why do we put ourselves in this position in the first place? For what?!"
"You wouldn't understand..." Morval waved his hand.
*Knock* *Knock*
At that moment, a voice came from outside: "First Brother, there's something urgent that requires your approval."
"Is there nothing that isn't urgent these days?!" Morval raised his voice, "Come in!!"
After the shout, a mature woman entered, casting a quick and sharp glance toward Timari, then handed Morval a light disc, "Please watch this footage; the price for comprehensive promotion has already been paid."
Morval was about to shout for someone else to review the clip, as it was probably just like all the others he saw daily, but a phrase stopped him, making him mutter in a low voice, "...Comprehensive promotion prepaid?"
The price of something like that couldn't be afforded by ordinary stalkers—even the Behemoths would think twice before paying it!
Then he reached out and began examining the footage... and immediately raised his eyebrows slowly, a few drops of sweat starting to appear on his forehead. "Oh... this will change a few things, without a doubt."
"Let me see that!" Timari extended her spiritual sense quickly and began examining it as well, and immediately turned pale and cried out, "You cannot allow this to be published under any circumstances!!"
"..." Morval stared at the Disc, then at Timari...
Then he returned the Disc to the mature woman with some reluctance, "Publish it."
